Leonardo was one of the first to approach science with a systematic and experimental approach.

Medicine also experienced significant progress during the Renaissance. Andreas Vesalius laid the foundations of modern anatomy with his book “De humani corporis fabrica” (On the structure of the human body). His detailed dissections and illustrations revealed the precise structure of the human body and challenged many medieval misconceptions.

Impact on society and culture

The Renaissance had a profound impact on society and culture. The spread of printing, invented by Johannes Gutenberg, made it possible to spread knowledge and ideas faster than ever before. Books became more accessible to the general public, which encouraged literacy and education.

The Renaissance also spurred the rise of humanism, a philosophical movement that emphasized the value of the human being, his freedom and capacity to achieve great things. Humanists such as Erasmus of Rotterdam, Thomas More, and Pico della Mirandola advocated education and intellectual curiosity as key to human progress.
